Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQ's)
Where is the event held?
Polaris Career Center, 7285 Old Oak Blvd, Middleburg Heights, Ohio 44130.  We are located in the culinary arts department of the building, which is right inside the main doors.

When does Registration for classes and competition open?
Registration opens September 1st, 2011.  This applies to all competition and classes.

Is there an entry fee to just see the cakes?
No.  We welcome the public to check out the cakes at no charge.  The live competitions, however, do require purchased tickets.

Do you accept credit cards for payment?
Yes, we are happy to accept credit card payments via Payal for preregistration.  There are links on the Class Descriptions Page.  We are now able to accept credit cards and cash on site.

Can I register for classes once I get to the event?
Yes.  We welcome onsite registration for classes.  There is an additional $10.00 per class fee for onsite registration and we accept cash and check only for onsite registration.  Please keep in mind if you wait until the day of the class to register, that the class may already be sold out or canceled.  We encourage preregistration.

I don't see a supply list under the class description, does that mean that I don't have to bring anything?
No.  If there is no supply list, please check back at a later date as the instructor may not have sent the supply list in yet.  If it is stated that the instructor will supply everything, then you do not need to bring anything.

My plans changed and I cannot attend the event.  Can I get a refund of my class fees?
No.  Our instructors make their plans for travel (sometimes months in advance) based on the class counts we give them.  They are expecting payment for all students registered. Please plan your schedule accordingly.

Is there an additional registration fee over the cost of the classes and competitions?
No.  All fees are included in your class and competition costs.

Are all the classes hands on or are they demonstration type classes?
All of the 2 hour and 3 hour classes are hands on.  We will also be running 1 hour demonstrations/lectures concurrently.  You can purchase a 1 day or 2 day pass for the lectures.

Will there be food available at the event?
Yes.  We are working with the local "Foodie Trucks" to provide snacks and meals.  Once details are available, we will post the information.  Jibaro and Sweet! Cupcake Truck will be joining us.

Why won't you let live challenge competitors compete again in the same challenge?
We encourage competitors to apply for the live challenges.  We strive for a 'fresh' competition each year, and to give everyone a chance at competing.  If you have competed in the live challenge in a previous year, you are still welcome to apply for the other challenge being offered.

Is the Cake Room closed during judging?
No.  Because the vendors are in the same room, we will have an open viewing of the gallery during judging.  Please, however, be considerate to the judges and not try to start up a conversation with the judges or linger by the cakes they are judging.  They have a hard job to do and need to concentrate.

I'm only 13 but I love cake decorating.  Can I enter a cake?
Absolutely!  We welcome your entry!  Please sign up under the youth category that matches your age range.
and remember anyone age 17and under entering a cake will receive ONE free ticket to the Buttercream Only Live Challenge!  Nontransferable, non-exchangeable.
